Speck FitFolio Cover for iPad 2
Published 31 October 2011
Last month, my mother received an iPad 2 for her birthday. That was an easy choice, what’s difficult is choosing a case that doesn’t hide the iPad’s elegance but at the same time has to service its protective function yet be practical.
Speck are no strangers to protective gear for portable electronics, from laptops to smartphones – they got it ‘covered’. The FitFolio for iPad 2 is a form-fitting cover which provides complete protection for your iPad 2. The cover fits to the back and sides of your iPad and a front cover folds over like a book cover. Installation is very easy and likewise for removal – simply snap in or out of position with zero damage to your tablet device.
The FitFolio is designed to hold the iPad 2 to its very precise dimensions with precision-cut openings for easy access to the side switches, docking connector, headphone and rear camera.
Available in red, black, grey, peacock (turquoise) and aubergine (purple), the finishing of the cover has a nice leathery feel complemented by the protective hard shell. Soft to the touch, figure-hugging design and flexible design makes the FitFolio an excellent all-rounder. As usual with Speck products, there are little surprises in its design. Most covers I’ve seen that follow this type of design usually have an unsecured loose cover, but Speck have gone for a small bungee-cord that keeps the case secured to the base, preventing it from accidentally opening – it’s a nice finishing touch.
More importantly for me, I was keen to see how well the FitFolio would serve its functional aspects. This includes using the stand to prop it up or angling it to form a typing stand – all functions that the iPad Smart Cover provides which the FitFolio respectfully replicates.
The Speck FitFolio Cover for iPad 2 is both functional and protective but remains faithful to the iPad 2’s thin form factor. The high quality finish and easy snap-on, snap-off design makes it an ideal cover for everyday use with your iPad 2.
